If you've been under a rock or just never heard of it, GrandCentral is a online service (web 2.0 app) that allows you to take a number from a list and make it your own. A "one number to reach you" type of deal.
A guy wrote an article on it:
Google's GrandCentral Is Hottest Mobile App Ever
GrandCentral was a stand alone company fairly recently Google acquired it. Since the acquisition however, not much has happened other than a invite only status and a few cosmetic things to the logos.
I may not go that far but it can be handy if you want to hide your true phone number from someone. One way to use it might be to give it to dates and then if you don't match up with them then they have the GrandCentral number and you can block or screen the call. There is even an option when they call you to record the call. (Just make sure to check your local laws on call recording.)
It's currently in a invite only status. I have an account and some invites if you want to check it out let me know... If I know you then I'll respond faster if I don't then you'll be second round pick.
